The number of foreign workers in Germany has risen in recent years. According to a 2023 report by Destatis, 12% of all doctors in Germany were foreign nationals, up from 7% a decade earlier. This translates to 62,000 foreign doctors in 2023, compared to 29,000 in 2013.
The medical profession is the second most recognized foreign qualification in Germany, highlighting the country’s reliance on international talent.
High Demand for Healthcare Professionals
Germany’s healthcare sector is facing a critical shortage of workers, with 16,698 positions currently unfilled. The German Economic Institute (IW) predicts that this demand will only grow due to demographic trends.
