• New Rules for Indian Berry Pickers in Finland

The Finnish government has introduced stricter regulations for foreign berry pickers, including Indian workers, to prevent exploitation and human trafficking. Here are the key updates:

    • Effective February 18, 2025, Indian berry pickers must obtain a seasonal work permit to work in Finland.
    • Permit categories based on contract duration:
      • Less than 3 months: Seasonal work visa (mandatory for Indian workers due to the absence of a visa liberalization agreement with Finland).
      • More than 3 months: Seasonal work residence permit (valid for the contract duration).
    • Employment contract is now compulsory, specifying working hours and salary details.
    • Employers' responsibility: They must fulfill specific requirements to support the worker's visa application.
    • Contracts lasting 6 to 9 months require a labor availability assessment by the Finnish Immigration Service.

These measures aim to protect workers and ensure fair employment conditions. Indian applicants are advised to apply early and secure valid job contracts to prevent delays.
